No surprises. Just age-appropriate conversations.

We understand that conversations about bodies, puberty, reproduction and growing up can feel personal — and that parents and caregivers want to know exactly what their child will be learning.

We want you to know too.

At The Chat Academy, our sessions are carefully designed for primary school-aged children, with clear, factual and age-appropriate content. Schools know exactly what will be covered before we arrive and choose the sessions that best suit their students and school community.

Our goal is to make these important conversations feel comfortable, positive and completely normal — while supporting the conversations that continue at home.

Our Approach

AGE-APPROPRIATE
There’s a big difference between what’s appropriate for a Year 3 student and a Year 6 student. Our sessions are carefully designed to introduce information gradually, at a level suited to each age and stage.

FACTUAL
We use clear, medically accurate information and correct anatomical terminology, helping children understand their bodies and development without embarrassment or confusion.

ENGAGING
Learning about growing up doesn’t have to feel awkward! Our educators create a relaxed and positive environment where students feel comfortable learning, participating and asking questions.

RESPECTFUL OF FAMILIES
We recognise that every family has its own values, beliefs, culture and experiences. Our role is to provide factual education within the agreed program content, while encouraging children to continue conversations with their parents and caregivers at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT EXACTLY WILL MY CHILD LEARN?

The content your child receives will depend on their year level and the sessions selected by their school. Each of our lessons has clearly defined content, and schools know what will be covered before we arrive.

Not every topic is covered in every session — our programs build gradually as children grow.

HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE THE CONTENT IS AGE-APPROPRIATE?

There’s a big difference between what’s appropriate for a Year 3 student and a Year 6 student!

Our lessons are specifically designed for each age and stage, introducing information gradually and in a way that children can understand without overwhelming them with information they’re not ready for.

WILL PARENTS KNOW WHAT IS BEING TAUGHT BEFOREHAND?

Yes. No surprises really does mean no surprises!

Schools receive information about the content of each lesson and choose the sessions that best suit their students and school community. We encourage schools to share this information with families so parents and caregivers know what their child will be learning.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A STUDENT ASKS A QUESTION OUTSIDE THE LESSON CONTENT?

Children are naturally curious, and we love that they feel comfortable asking questions!

However, a question doesn’t automatically mean it’s appropriate to discuss the answer with the whole class. Our educators use professional judgement and keep discussions within the scope and age level of the session.

If a question is better suited to a conversation at home, we’ll encourage the student to chat with their parent, caregiver or another trusted adult.

WILL MY CHILD HAVE TO TALK ABOUT PERSONAL EXPERIENCES?

No. Students are never expected to share personal information or experiences.

We keep our sessions relaxed, positive and interactive, but children can participate at a level that feels comfortable for them. Our aim is to make conversations about bodies and growing up feel normal - never embarrassing or confronting.

HOW DO YOU APPROACH DIFFERENT FAMILY VALUES, BELIEFS AND CULTURES?

We recognise that every family and school community is different.

Our role is to provide clear, factual and age-appropriate education while respecting that families may have different values, beliefs, cultures and experiences. We encourage children to continue conversations about their own family’s beliefs and values with their parents and caregivers at home.

DO THESE SESSIONS REPLACE CONVERSATIONS AT HOME?

Absolutely not!

Parents and caregivers are some of the most important people children can talk to about growing up, relationships and their family’s values.

Our aim is to support those conversations, not replace them. In fact, we hope our sessions give children and their families an easy starting point for conversations that might otherwise feel a little awkward to begin.

CAN PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS ATTEND TOO?

Yes! Our Family Education Sessions are designed specifically for children and their parents or caregivers to attend together.

They’re relaxed, informative and interactive, giving families an opportunity to learn together and helping to open the door for conversations to continue at home.
